Miss Universe 2019: Zozibini Tunzi Making "Black Girl Magic." Black Excellence in Pageant History.

Updated: Dec 11, 2019

Congratulations are in order for the winner of The Miss Universe 2019 Beauty Competition. Although all of the contestants were aesthetical muses, South Africa's Zozibini Tunzi took home the crown.

The 26 -year old model from Tsolo, South Africa describes herself as an activist who is passionate about fighting against gender violence in her country and is an advocate for natural beauty.

With her hair in a short natural hairstyle, Tunzi embraced her short natural hair, and cocoa skin. According to a media statement the model, and now Beauty Contestant winner of the Miss Universe Pageant, states that ever since she can remember, society has had their own ideas of what beauty is. Zozibini is passionate about representing natural beauty in its most unaltered state and loving the skin she's in - hence, "Black Girl Magic".

"Tonight a door was opened and I could not be more grateful to have been the one to have walked through it. May every little girl who witnessed this moment forever believe in the power of her dreams and may they see their faces reflected in mine."

This year has been a year of "Black Excellence" for Pageant Winners, as all four competitions have crowned women of color. This is the true meaning of "Black Girl Magic".
